Parish Lunch Sunday 24th August  (18-08-08)
Parish Lunch

Sunday 24th August

The next Parish lunch (main course + pud) will be on at 12:30 in the Village Hall on 24th August. This is the usual lunch held on the 4th Sunday

following the Family Service at 11.

All are very welcome to the Family Service and / or to the lunch; it is not necessary to come to the service to come to the lunch.

Do come as it’s a good regular social occasion. We can arrange lifts to make getting there greener.

There will be no charge for the meal and there is a voluntary collection for a charity afterwards.

If you can let us know if you will be coming that would be helpful for the catering, but that's not essential

as we make suitable provision for last minute decisions.

PRESS RELEASE

FAMILY SECRETS

Anyone who wants to discover more about the history of their family will be fascinated by a special event coming up at Wellsprings Leisure Centre, Taunton, on 13 September at 7.00 pm.

Dr Nick Barratt, of television’s ‘Who Do You Think You Are’, will be speaking about the BBC’s flagship family history programme and his own work in searching out family secrets. Nick’s research for the programme has involved piecing together the family histories of celebrities ranging from Barbara Windsor to Jeremy Clarkson. Now he will be telling us how he uncovers the amazing stories of forgotten ancestors, and brings the past vividly back to life. There will also be the chance to hear him talk about researching the buildings we live in, as revealed in his other TV success ‘Hidden House Histories’.

The other speaker will be Tom Mayberry, Somerset’s County Heritage Officer, who will be talking on the subject of ‘Discovering Somerset History’.

This fundraising event has been organised by the Friends of Somerset Archives, a voluntary organisation which helps to ensure the preservation of Somerset’s remarkable archive heritage. Tickets, to include refreshments, cost £10.00 each. They are available from Taunton Tourist Information Centre, Paul Street, Taunton, tel. (01823) 336344, or from Anne Leamon, Chilliswood, Dipford Road, Trull Taunton TA3 7NT tel. 07775 563251.

Note for Editors

The Friends of Somerset Archives was created in 2004 to help ensure the preservation of Somerset’s archival heritage. The Friends have a special role in supporting the work of the Somerset Record Office, the county’s official archive, and recently contributed to the purchase of an outstanding collection of documents recording the history of the Ilchester area from the Middle Ages onwards. The Friends also undertake major research projects, including the transcription of a vast series of 19th century documents which record the owners and occupiers of almost every piece of land in the county. The Friends have a programme of events and a newsletter.

For further information, contact Anne Leamon on 07775 563251.

FILMS COMING TO BOURTON  (06-08-08)
Tuesday, September 09, Bourton, The Bank Job, 7.30 pm

Tuesday, October 14, Bourton, Mongol, 7.30 pm

Tuesday, November 11, Bourton, Mamma Mia!, 7.30 pm

THE BANK JOB (15) Available now
UK 111 mins. Written by Dick Clement and Ian Le Frenais.
Crime Drama

“I'm old enough to remember this robbery well, and the film does a great credit to a very true story, Jason Statham is Terry a very small time hood with a car lot (like Arthur Daly) who gets lured into this bank job by one time girl friend Martine (Saffron Burrows). They do the robbery, masterminded by Peter Bowles, a long way from his smooth Richard De Vere days in To The Manor Born. The film moves at a great pace, and builds to a great climax.”
Based on an allegedly true story – a crime that the Police were told to drop because of the sensitive nature of the material found in the safe deposit boxes.(Princess Margaret’s exploits in the Caribbean!)

“This is the Lebanon I have always known. The movie helps dispel stereotypes about Middle-Easterners and promotes tolerance and friendship. Do not miss out on this great movie.”

MAMMA MIA! (12A) Available from October
UK–USA 120 mins.
Musical

18-year-old Sophie Sheridan (Amanda Seyfried) has a problem. It's almost her wedding day and she doesn't know who her father is. It could be any of her mother Donna's (Meryl Streep) past suitors: Sam Carmichael (Pierce Brosnan), Bill Austin (Stellan Skarsgård), or Harry Bright (Colin Firth). The only way for her to find out is to invite all three to her wedding to see what happens. Mamma Mia! Was the first film to be shot on the new 007 Stage at Pinewood Studios following a fire after Casino Royale (2006) wrapped. The new 59,000 sq ft stage was used for song and dance numbers that could not be filmed in Greece. Benny Andersson, former ABBA member and co-composer of the songs, calls Meryl Streep "a miracle". Streep came to Stockholm to do her vocal for the song The Winner Takes it All, and finished it in one take. Worth the ticket price just to see the wonderful Ms Streep sing and dance. Irresistible!
